A shocking incident has emerged from Nellai (Tirunelveli), Tamil Nadu, where a 17-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by individuals claiming to be from the Special Police Unit. The case has stirred public concern and gained attention across social media platforms in southern districts.
📍 Incident Location
The boy is a native of Adichanallur near Srivaikundam in Thoothukudi District. His father, Mayandi, is currently residing with his family near Meenatchipuram in Nellai Junction.
👦 What the Boy Claims
The boy, now admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, stated:
“Two men on a two-wheeler blocked my way and asked, ‘Where is your father?’ I asked who they were. They said they were special task force officers from Srivaikundam Police Station and were looking to arrest my father.
I said I didn’t know anything about my father’s whereabouts. They then said I would have to come to the police station. When I tried to leave, one of them grabbed my left hand. I attempted to run away, but they beat me. One of them threw a baton at me, which hit me near the neck and caused an injury.”
🏥 Medical Admission and Complaint
The boy was taken to the government hospital for treatment, and the issue was reported to the Outpost Police Station at the hospital. Officials there confirmed:
“The boy claims that two unknown persons assaulted him, but he is unable to identify who they were. Higher authorities have begun an investigation.”
🎙️ SP Albert John’s Official Statement
Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police Albert John responded to the allegations, saying:
“In the preliminary investigation, it appears that no members of the Thoothukudi Special Task Force were sent to Tirunelveli.
Due to the upcoming Kumbabishekam (consecration ceremony) at the Thiruchendur temple, most police forces have been reassigned to temple security duties.
After the recent Sivagangai incident, special units have been redistributed to regular police station duties. There’s little to no chance that STF members would visit Tirunelveli without uniform or proper protocol, carrying batons.
However, we are reviewing CCTV footage from the area near Nellai Junction and continuing the investigation.”
