Tata Power’s solar manufacturing division, TP Solar, has successfully surpassed a milestone of 4 GW cumulative solar module output at its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. As of May 31, 2025, the facility has produced 4,049 MW of solar modules and 1,441 MW of solar cells, reinforcing its role in driving India's renewable energy mission.

Recognized as India’s largest single-location solar cell and module manufacturing plant, the Tirunelveli site is equipped with an impressive nameplate capacity of 4.3 GW each for both solar cells and modules. The plant also includes infrastructure for future capacity expansion, aligning with Tata Power’s long-term vision for sustainable energy growth.

With a strategic investment of ₹4,300 crore, this facility forms the backbone of Tata Power’s localization strategy for the solar value chain. It manufactures ALMM-certified and DCR-compliant modules, utilizing indigenously produced solar cells. The advanced manufacturing unit leverages cutting-edge technologies like TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) and Mono PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell), ensuring high efficiency and reliability.

Looking ahead, TP Solar aims to scale production to 3.7 GW of solar cells and 3.725 GW of modules in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), strengthening its commitment to clean and green energy. The Tirunelveli facility is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem, supporting the nation’s ambition of becoming a global leader in renewable energy.
