Tirunelveli CSR fund distribution for disabled - Palayamkottai.com

In a significant step toward inclusive development, Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru distributed ₹98.81 lakh worth of welfare aid to 1,231 differently abled persons in Tirunelveli on Sunday. The event was a collaborative effort by the District Administration, Differently Abled Welfare Department, and CSR contributions from Indian Oil and ALIMCO.

Speaking at the event, Tirunelveli Collector R. Sukumar emphasized the consistent support extended to the differently abled over the past four years. Through five major schemes under the Differently Abled Welfare Department, ₹57.90 crore has been disbursed, benefiting 7,731 individuals. Among the highlights is a monthly assistance of ₹2,000 per person, which has provided consistent financial relief.

Further, the Collector mentioned that ₹1.44 crore in educational assistance was granted to 2,715 students, covering classes from I to XII and those pursuing diplomas and degree programs. Additionally, 551 individuals were provided mobility scooters and various supportive tools for enhanced accessibility.

A significant innovation in the program was the distribution of smartphones with assistive applications to 325 differently abled individuals, bridging the digital divide and enhancing their communication and accessibility.

Over the last four years, 33,261 people have benefitted from various assistive devices, ensuring better mobility, communication, and independence. At this latest event, beneficiaries were presented with tricycles, folding wheelchairs, hearing aids, crutches, calipers, smartphones, and other mobility aids.

The distribution ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Palyamkottai MLA Abdul Wahab, District Revenue Officer M. Sukanya, and Revenue Divisional Officer Kanna Karuppaiya, along with other officials and stakeholders who reiterated their commitment to empowering differently abled citizens.

This initiative reflects a strong example of how government support, corporate social responsibility, and community focus can come together to uplift and empower every section of society.
