A youth from Ramanathapuram district, who befriended her through Instagram, was arrested under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act by the Melapalayam Police.

According to police sources, the minor girl came in contact with the accused through Instagram. Over a few weeks, they reportedly exchanged messages and engaged in frequent phone conversations. What seemed like an online friendship quickly escalated beyond limits.

Just days ago, the girl went missing from her Tirunelveli residence, triggering panic among her family members. Her parents immediately filed a missing person complaint at Melapalayam Police Station, following which an investigation was launched.

The police traced her location to Kanjirankudi in Ramanathapuram district, where the accused — identified as Matheswaran (21), an AC mechanic — had taken her. Investigators confirmed that the girl had been subjected to inappropriate conduct during this period.

Following questioning and medical examinations, the youth was arrested and charged under multiple sections of the POCSO Act. He is now in judicial custody.
