In a strict crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Tirunelveli district police arrested two individuals for possessing and attempting to sell ganja (marijuana) near Mukkudal. The arrests were made during a routine patrol operation conducted by the local police force.

📍 Police Patrol Led to the Seizure

As part of ongoing efforts to curb drug-related activities, a team led by Sub-Inspector Aknal Vijay carried out patrolling in and around the Mukkudal region. During their inspection near Thambothi Bridge on Mukkudal Main Road, they spotted two individuals behaving suspiciously.

Upon interrogation, the suspects were identified as:

  • Siva (19), a resident of Pappakkudi Nadutheru, and

  • A minor boy, whose identity is withheld due to age.

A thorough search revealed that they were in possession of 50 grams of ganja, a substance banned under Indian Narcotic Laws due to its harmful effects on public health.

🚓 Legal Action Taken Immediately

Following the discovery:

  • Siva was arrested on the spot and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

  • The minor was sent to a government-run juvenile care home (கூர்நோக்கு இல்லம்) for rehabilitation and further counseling.

  • The police also seized the 50 grams of ganja from their possession as evidence.
